Thank you for your interest in becoming a Master Gardener!

Would you like to become a Master Gardener?  Are you interested in becoming more knowledgable by receiving university level training in horticulture?  Do you have the passion, the commitment, and the willingness to serve your community by providing a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service every year?  Will you assist the Cooperative Extension Service by answering questions about gardening in the Albuquerque area after you have been trained?  If you can answer yes to these questions, we would love to have you join us as a Master Gardener.  The Master Gardener Training Program is an opportunity to learn about gardening in a fun and friendly environment!

Application Information

NMSU Extension logoThe application window for the 2023 training program is now closed.  The Bernalillo County Extension Service begins recruiting and accepting applications from prospective interns in early October for the class that begins in January of the following year.  The class usually fills up quickly so please check for details early in October so you don't miss the opportunity to apply.

The training will predominantly be online but there may be in-person workshops and other events.  There will be twelve weeks of classes from January through April.

It is essential that you have reliable computer equipment, devices, and internet service to access online information.

You should have an interest in horticulture, a commitment to volunteering, and time to volunteer.

Master Gardeners must meet all training requirements and agree to complete 40 volunteer hours at any of the approved volunteer opportunities in their intern year.

There is a fee for the Albuquerque Area Extension Master Gardener (AAEMG) university level training program of $150.  After you complete the training year, AAEMG program dues for Master Gardeners are only $25/year.
